ASP (Appalachia Service Project) is our annual mission trip for high school and college students and adults. It’s a mission that serves the southern Appalachian mountain states (Kentucky, North Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia) and aims to make homes warmer, safer, and drier for low-income families. It’s a life-changing week of service, fun, and fellowship. UMC of Geneva has served with ASP since 1982. You can learn more about ASP at their website, www.asphome.org.
This year’s ASP Trip is scheduled for July 11-18, 2026.
We meet 3-4 times as a group prior to the trip to prepare and to participate in fundraisers.
2026 Events:
Sunday February 22nd – Chili Cook off fundraiser during Grace, Gather, Grow from 5:30-7pm. Click to register to make and/or eat chili!
Sunday March 1st, 2026 – evening – possible Zoom or in-person meeting.
Saturday April 25th: Help cleanup after Rummage sale at 12pm, with a meeting following at 1:30pm.
Early May: Bake/Meat Sale fundraiser
Tentative Early June team building session at Northern Illinois Food Bank
Friday July 10th, 2026 at 5pm: Potluck and load the vans to head off to ASP – state TBD
Saturday July 11th, 2026 at 7am: Meet at church to load up and go.
Cost per participant is $350; $150 deposit due when registering. The remaining $200 is due on May 1, 2026. Each student is asked to raise $100 additional. Scholarships are available to cover part or all of the cost. If you need that support, please contact Mike Popplewell at mike@genevaumc.org.
