Photo and Video Privacy Policy

At the United Methodist Church of Geneva (UMCG) we value the way in which photos, videos and other media help our church grow and flourish. Photos and videos tell our story, provide visitors information and an idea of what to expect when they attend our worship services and events, highlight the work of those who serve, and allow us to communicate our mission to make and nurture disciples of Jesus Christ who serve the community and world via our website, digital, print and social media.

Accordingly, photography, videography, live streaming and other recording may be in progress at UMCG’s Sunday services, ministry activities, classes, programs and other events. UMCG may use the media recorded at these events in materials produced by or for the church, including but not limited to our bulletins, posters, brochures, newsletters and other printed and electronic materials, digital media (e.g., UMCG’s website, Facebook and other social media sites).

By participating in UMCG’s services, ministry activities, classes, programs and events: (i) you consent to be photographed, videotaped or otherwise recorded; (ii) you grant your permission for UMCG to use recordings containing your image, likeness, voice or statements, without compensation, credit or other consideration to you, for UMCG’s promotional, publicity and other purposes, throughout the world and in perpetuity; and (iii) you agree to release, hold harmless and indemnify UMCG from any and all liabilities and claims involving the use of your image, likeness, voice or statements.

While we reserve the right to photograph and record church events, we strive to ensure that photography and videography are used in safe and positive ways. We will not knowingly and intentionally post or use any photo, video or other recording that would be embarrassing, objectionable or hurtful to any clearly, personally identifiable individual in the recording.

Photographs, videos and other recordings of children and youth from youth activities and events will be used only if a parent/guardian has indicated permission on the Children’s Ministry Registration form or otherwise given permission. Additionally, further specific permission is required to use the names of children/youth.

Additionally, if you see a photo on a UMCG website or social media page that includes you or your child and would like it removed, please contact the church office, or email us at communications@genevaumc.org. Please note it may not be possible to remove your image from video or live stream video.

With regard to live-streaming videos at UMCG. All persons in the room (primarily the Sanctuary) have the potential to be recorded and/or broadcast. There are zones that typically are not in the eye of the camera or microphone (particularly our balcony and during children’s time along the wall of the first pew) please utilize these zones for additional privacy. Contact any of our pastors for direction on how to best meet your privacy needs not addressed above and still participate in worship that is being live streamed.
