All Means All

UMCG Council Statement in Response to GC 2019 “On behalf of the Church Council and the ALL MEANS ALL Committee of the United Methodist Church of Geneva, we acknowledge the acceptance of all people as children of God. We believe that discrimination in any form is unacceptable. We strongly disagree with the Special General Conference’s position on the LGBTQ community. We welcome ALL people.”

A Message from Our Pastors…

The United Methodist Church’s Special General Conference 2019 could not find a way forward regarding its official stance on the inclusion of the LGBTQ community.  By adopting the Traditional Plan, the current restrictive language of the Book of Discipline (concerning ordination and marriage in the church) was retained and its exclusive language was strengthened.  This outcome was not what the pastors at UMCG hoped for.  We are heart broken to know that our denomination has caused such deep pain to our brothers and sisters of the LGBTQ community.  We are grieved and disappointed.

The next step is for the United Methodist Church’s Judicial Council to determine the constitutionality of the Traditional Plan April 23-25.  We will need to take time as individuals, a church a conference, and a denomination, to respond as the process unfolds.  Rest assured that we, your pastors, will be with you throughout this transition.  We invite you to take courage, be patient with one another, listen to one another and above all, listen for God’s voice leading us into new opportunities for change, mission and ministry.  May this spur us on to love ore, do ministry more, and to include people all the more.

Grace and peace,
Pastor Rich Darr and Pastor Esther Lee
