As we journey through this season of hope, it is a privilege to reflect on the many ways our congregation embodies God’s grace. One such expression of our faith in action is the Pastors’ Discretionary Fund, a ministry of care and compassion quietly making a difference in countless lives.
This fund exists to meet material and financial needs within our community, offering a hand up in times of unexpected hardship. Guided by our church’s mission and policies, the fund’s resources are carefully stewarded to ensure the greatest impact. Donations come from individual gifts and contributions from our Men’s Club and Women’s Ministry. These acts of generosity empower us to respond quickly and compassionately to the needs around us.
The Pastors’ Discretionary Fund is intentionally designed as a hand-up, not a handout. It prioritizes emergency needs and fosters stability, connecting individuals to resources that help them move forward. Wherever possible, we partner with mission organizations like Lazarus House, Tri-City Family Services, and others to meet needs holistically and sustainably.
This year, the impact of the fund has been profound. Because of your generosity, we’ve been able to assist:
- Two single mothers with living expenses, offering them a path toward greater security.
- One homeless individual in securing housing, creating a foundation for new opportunities.
- Two elderly couples with critical medication costs, preserving their health and well-being.
- Eleven individuals with emergency food, rent, or car repairs, helping them navigate sudden crises.
- Three individuals with train passes, enabling access to work, medical care, and other essential appointments.
- Ten households with gifts of encouragement during difficult times, reminding them they are not alone.
These stories of hope are rooted in the fund’s priorities, which aim to assist those connected to our church and community while ensuring the aid provided fosters independence rather than dependency. Whether paying directly to vendors for rent or utilities, offering referrals to mission partners, or providing personalized care, every disbursement reflects our shared commitment to illuminating the community with God’s grace.
The Pastors’ Discretionary Fund also includes a beautiful tradition called Gifts of Encouragement, where families identified by the pastoral staff receive a financial gift and a letter of hope during the holidays. These gifts do not require a specific need to be named but serve as a tangible reminder of God’s love and the community’s care.
This ministry of quiet compassion speaks to the heart of our mission and the truth of Matthew 25:40: “Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.” Through the Pastors’ Discretionary Fund, we bear witness to this scripture, offering light and love in moments of darkness.
Thank you for your ongoing support of this vital ministry. Your contributions ensure that we can continue to offer hope and dignity to those in need. If you feel moved to make a gift to the Pastors’ Discretionary Fund, donations can be made online or by check, designated for this purpose. Every gift, no matter the size, makes an impact.
As we continue through Advent, let us remember the power of generosity and the difference it makes in the lives of others. Together, we are shining God’s light, bringing peace, hope, and joy to a world in need.
Advent Blessings,
