I’ve always been someone who connects deeply to music—the beat, the lyrics, the feeling a song carries. I tend to find myself in songs, relating to them in ways that surprise me. At the same time, I also love the kind of music that simply fills the background while I’m driving, cooking, walking, or just trying to reset after a long day.
I don’t know about you, but music is woven into my spiritual life. Sometimes it gives me words I couldn’t find or brings comfort I didn’t know I needed. Sometimes music can help us feel something we’ve been avoiding. And sometimes…it just makes us dance in the kitchen.
So, in the spirit of sharing a little slice of everyday life, here are a few categories from my current playlist:
1. For when I need a reset
- “Hurts 2B Human” – Pink
- “Relief” – Medium Build
- “Dreams” – NEEDTOBREATHE (featuring Judah & The Lion)
These are the songs that remind me to breathe, slow down, and trust that life doesn’t have to be rushed.
2. For joy (and maybe dancing in the kitchen)
- “Sunday” – Ben Rector
- “Up” – Tauren Wells
Because sometimes the most spiritual thing we can do is let ourselves feel joy—fully and without apology.
3. For when I’m feeling a little deep
- “Arrow” – The Head and the Heart
- “Faith of My Fathers” – The World in Lights
- “Born to Love” – Ashes & Arrows
These are the songs that hold both ache and beauty—the kind that remind me how connected we all are.
4. For walking (or just clearing my head)
- “Wild Spirit” – The National Parks
- “Sunrise” – Fulton Lee
Perfect for getting outside, moving your body, and letting your thoughts settle a bit.
5. For grounding in faith
- “Come to the Table” – Common Hymnal
- “Courage” – Alexandra Blakely
- “Explaining Jesus” – Jordy Searcy
Songs that echo the quiet truths of faith—belonging, identity, and grace.
6. For hope (especially on harder days)
- “The Time for Flowers” – Emily Scott Robinson
- “Heavy” – Booshle G.
- “Heavy Foot” – Mon Rovîa
These are the songs I turn to when I need a reminder that light still finds its way in.
If I’m honest, my playlist is a little all over the place. Some days it’s reflective, some days it’s upbeat or an 80s/90s/00s mix, and some days it’s whatever helps me keep going.
But maybe that’s kind of the point.
Our spiritual lives aren’t found only in quiet moments or on Sunday mornings. They’re woven into the everyday rhythms—the car rides, the walks, the dishes, the moments we didn’t plan.
So, consider your playlist…and listen a little more closely this week, noticing where God might be meeting you in the music.
Grace & peace (& good music),
